my review on the sutchi

yesterday it was rather difficult for me to decide what to cook for lunch. as some of you would know i've given up on rice! (and proud to say i've been off it for at least 2 months, yes i do miss it) but i noticed that without rice i would be eating a lot lesser. you know malay food, there's just too many dishes (lauk) and its all the yummy ones (gulai lemak, curry, asam pedas, sambal ikan bilis) yumms... who could resist and only resort to one plate of rice for each serving! it was just my weakness. so instead of feeling guilty and bitching about it later, i might as well give it up all together. but mind you, i still do take those yummylicious dishes, but taking it in moderation. yes the things we do, not to put on weight!

anyway back to my dilemma, i decided to cook beef with black bean sauce and black pepper, and the other was fish fillet coated with batter. the fish fillet that we had gotten was sutchi (its called ikan patin in malay) - fresh water fish, which is a rather no no for me. i think it's an acquired taste. but since i'm going to cook it, i might as well eat it. right? wrong...

before i cooked the fish i think i must have washed it for like 15 times, just to get the smell off it, ok i achieved that, so i psyched my self up, maybe just maybe since i've washed the smell off it, the taste might be alright. so i marinated the fish with some lemon, mixed herbs, a dash of paprika, salt and black pepper. then coated it with the batter, and fried it.

waited for hubs, and got the table ready then... it was time to dig in!! so i did, but i started eating the beef first, and took my time with it, sub-consciously i was trying to avoid the fish i guess. then i took my first bite of the fish, hmm... it wasn't that bad... then another bite, cause i cut the fillet to bite pieces, made it easier for me to eat it... hehe, yes i'm such an anal.

i think after the second bite of the sutchi... i was feeling all kinds of nauseous. errghh, this wasn't my first attempt with this fish. i give up! if you can't get pass the fact that its fresh water fish, and you can't appreciate or acquire the taste, you might as well not. i'm not a big fan of "sashimi" but i rather eat those. to that extend! "don't say i didn't try... i really did"...
